Manage hosts and services

Give a host a manual tag, rename a service, mark a service as internet facing, or accept a new host key.

Open the Environment, then the Hosts tab, and select a host. The host page shows the OS, the machine ID, the host key fingerprint, the last scan result, all addresses, and each service with its listens and its connections.

Give a host a manual tag

  1. Select Manual tag.
  2. Type the tag.
  3. Select Save.

The manual tag overrides the tag rules for this host. To use the rules again, clear the tag.

Rename a service

  1. In the services table, select Edit for the service.
  2. Type a display name, for example “Orders API”.
  3. Select Save.

The map has the same control: select the service, then Rename or set internet facing.

Mark a service as internet facing

Do this for edge services, for example load balancers.

  1. Select Edit for the service.
  2. Set Internet facing to on.
  3. Select Save.

The map shows an arrow from the Internet node to each port of the service. A service with a dashed yellow border on the map gets connections from public addresses: examine it, and mark it if it is an edge service.

Accept a new host key

The collector does not collect a host when its host key changed. The scan result is hostkey_changed.

  1. Make sure that the key changed for a good reason, for example a reinstall.
  2. On the host page, select Accept new host key.

The next scan stores the new key.

What stays after a rescan

The display names, the internet facing settings and the manual tag stay while the host exists. A host that does not answer on the SSH port is deleted, with these settings. See Rescans.
